Students at BIT to celebrate the Chinese New Year through all kinds of cultural activities on January 10th, 2014. The winter holiday is coming, and so is the Spring Festival, so this event is held to let the international students who can’t go back to their countries feel Chinese culture more closely, and it is also a farewell to those who are going back.
On that day, many students came to the lounge very early to help the teachers hang lanterns, paste Chinese paper-cutting and couplets, and decorate the lounge according to the Chinese Spring Festival customs. This event was divided into four parts including paper cutting, lantern riddles guessing, Chinese calligraphy writing, and dumplings making. Students from Pakistan, Rwanda, Germany, America and many other countries all participated in these activities.
Paper-cutting is one of the Chinese traditional customs during the Spring Festival. Teachers patiently taught all the students paper cutting and the students followed step by step; finally, they pasted all their beautiful artworks on the windows, which brought an entirely new outlook to the lounge.
In the lantern riddles guessing, many students got the right answers with their wisdom and received small gifts with Chinese features.
When writing Chinese calligraphy, many students found it very interesting to use the brush to write Chinese characters. Under the teacher’s guidance, students express their love for Chinese culture with their own creations.
When making dumplings, students assisted with teachers to wash dishes, make stuffing, and learnt to make dumplings. For most of students, this is their first time to make dumplings, so they are all very excited. When the dumplings were well cooked, all the students couldn’t wait to have a try. Everyone gathered in front of the TV, to appreciate the brilliant performance of 2013 Spring Festival Gala while eating dumplings.

At the end of the event, students gave teachers their carefully-selected gifts to thank them for their effort and caring during the past semesters. They all took photos with their teachers to keep this wonderful moment in their memories
